Bridal gowns, Wedding planning.......

The Dress

The bridal gown is probably the most important dress you'll ever buy. More than just another piece of clothing, it is an embroidery of wonderful thoughts woven with memories that you'll be bound to treasure forever, right?

Decide and blend with a theme
The first thing to do is to decide the theme of your wedding, generally how do you want the event to feel, and also the style of the venue, is it a church, registry office or beach. Browse through bridal magazines, websites and maybe go to a bridal show so you can get an idea of what's out there.

Hit the stores & try them on!
The only way of knowing what styles will work for you is to get out there and try on dresses. Most bridal shops requires an appointment, so do ring ahead in good time. Never rush, allocate ample time of at least 2 to 3 hours. Communicate with the bridal house consultant on what you're looking at, reiterate the theme you have in mind, different styles and most importantly the budget or price points usually one's looking at.

Pick & customize!
After narrowing down to your preferred choice, the dress would ideally have to be made to order in the closest standard size to you. After you place an order, your dress can take anything up to 4 months to be made and shipped to the shop, so make sure you have plenty of time

What about accessories? It boils down to the important of contrasts and complements! (Bridal gowns, Wedding planning.......more )

Shoes
The most important thing here is to ensure they're comfortable. It is no good having to-die-for shoes if you are going to spend your wedding day dying to take them off, especially if you have a full length dress which will hide them almost all the time.

Bridal shoes usually come in the classic ivory and white colour. Always ensure you have your shoes in time for your first dress fitting, so that the dressmaker can get the length of the hem just right.

Lingerie
Practical or pretty? Lycra or lace? Depending on dress style and personal preference you may feel you need something to pull or push you into the shape you want. There are an increasing range of products available nowadays that are specifically designed to give a helping hand to mother nature without showing through.

Two main rules to remember. Firstly, if you have an ivory dress then you need ivory or flesh-coloured lingerie. White lingerie is especially likely to show through an ivory dress. Secondly, make sure you have your lingerie before your first dress fitting, you will need to wear it for the fitting.

Veils, Tiaras and Jewellery
Veils can be worn on the back of the head, as well as on the top, so you don't need to have netting cascading round your shoulders if you don't want to. A long veil with crystal detail can often add some eye-catching sparkle to the back of a gown, while not obscuring the design detail on the gown itself.

A tiara can provide a special detail for your hair style, especially if you are having your hair up. Speaking of which, if you do have a veil and/or tiara you should take them along to your first hair trial as the hairdresser will need to work them into your hairstyle.

Jewellery is pretty much a case of having as much or as little as you feel comfortable with. The key point here is to make sure that you co-ordinate everything. That is jewellery, any detailing on the dress, tiara and veil.

Practical helpful tips

  • Think about the hairstyle you're going to have on your big day. If you are planning to have your hair up, bring along a hair clip or band so you can put your hair up when you're trying on dresses.

  • Wear a strapless bra or take one with you when you go to try on. This way you get a better idea of what a dress will look like without bra straps hanging out of it.

  • Use the sales assistant. If they are good at their job then they will give you an honest opinion and they have no pre-conceptions about what ought to suit you — they only met you half an hour ago.
